5 out of 5 stars This is how I want to remember Depeche Mode   February 3, 2010
G. Kitagawa (San Jose, CA USA)
These live songs are SO different than the straight studio or remix versions. This video is why Photographic is my favorite Depeche song even though I can't stand the studio versions. I saw Depeche several times in the late 80's and 90's, but wish I saw this earlier version live. How I wish this were available on iTunes or DVD.

5 out of 5 stars Great Buy   January 27, 2005

The annoyed look on Gahan's face during the karaoke sing-along of "Everything Counts" is worth the price of this tape (which isn't much anyway). The performance by DM here is lively and energetic; it's pre-Black Celebration, so there's alot of smiling seen on the tape by all band members. The sound quality isn't the best, but hey, it was 1985, and the superimposing of various images of the band, the crowd and the lights can cause you to cross your eyes a bit, but the performance itself is worth it. A great buy, even if you're not the most devout DM fan.

5 out of 5 stars I Love Live in Hamburg!   March 24, 2002

I can't quite explain why, but I thoroughly love Live in Hamburg, I think Depeche Mode give a great performance and play a fabulous set of songs. It's good to see young Depeche Mode on the television once again. A very promising VHS that I can imagine all Depeche Mode fans loving.

4 out of 5 stars Another version   July 25, 2001

As someone who has been a Mode fan since they started and has followed them for the last 20 years I'd have to recommend this as a good example of early Mode live. Now that I live in the US I was dismayed to find that the NTSC US version leaves quite a few tracks out that are present on the European PAL version - including Shout, New Life, Leave In Silence - a bit puzzling but perhaps because the makers considered these tracks too unknown for US audiences? A great pity but at least they left Photographic which was always a good live track. If any of you fellow North American "moders" can get a copy of the European version, do so, then get it coverted to US format - you won't regret it if you're into the early stuff.

4 out of 5 stars Not bad !   May 19, 2000

It's always great to see Depeche Mode live in concert. One of the few bands who managed to be just as good if not better live on stage.

The Sound quality is a bit on the low side, but the songs and the atmopshere is easily absorbed by the viewer.

A definate must for Depeche Mode fans.
