Product Description Ideal for the home gym for fitness enthusiasts of any skill level, the Schwinn 430 Elliptical Trainer provides an effective cardiovascular workout by combining upper and lower body flexibility and coordination into one impact-free motion. Elliptical trainers emulate the natural motion of your foot while supporting your heel throughout the stride, making them much easier on your knees and joints. In addition to feeling more natural while working out, regular use on elliptical trainers will increase heart and lung capacity while improving your health (and burning calories at the same time). The Schwinn 430 offers eight computer-controlled resistance levels and eight workout programs for workout variety, including six user-profile programs, one manual, and one calorie goal program. Its quick start functions allows you to easily change your resistance level while exercising to challenge yourself to the next level. Three feedback programs--recovery mode, results mode, and body mass index (BMI)--allow you to track the progress of your workout routine. BioGlide motion technology offers a natural-feeling 18-inch stride while the trainer's BioFit design will provide a comfortable feel on the footpads and handlebars. The handlebars also feature grip heart rate monitoring which allows you to track your heart rate while you're exercising. Additional features of the Schwinn 430 elliptical trainer include Eddy current brake resistance for smooth and quiet stopping, transport wheels to easily move the trainer across the room, and a water bottle holder to keep your hydration source close by. By simulating motions experienced through walking, stepping, cycling, and skiing, elliptical machines allow for a smooth and fluid motion while building strength in the arms and legs. Similar to the exercise position for treadmills, elliptical trainers are used by standing in an upright position while holding the handrails of the machine. With elliptical trainers, however, your feet remain in the foot pedals throughout the exercise regimen and circulate in a smooth and seamless motion, resulting in little to no impact on the knees, back, and hips. Elliptical trainers are compatible for all ages and fitness levels and allow you to select the difficulty level through the incline and intensity settings. Additionally, elliptical trainers allow you to determine the complexity of your workout based on your needs, all while listening to music, watching television, or reading a magazine while exercising in the comfort and safety of your own home. Although different types of elliptical trainers offer an assortment of features, many of them include an array of challenging programs, forward and reverse directional movement, EKG grip pulse handles, a lightweight portable design with easy fold-up capability, and a monitor displaying calories burned, distance, speed, time, and heart rate. Other types of exercise machines, namely treadmills and bikes, offer excellent cardiovascular exercise and muscular training for the legs in a forward-motion exercise. Elliptical trainers take this to the next level by offering an upper and lower body workout with dual motion, challenging and diverse programs, and a low-impact exercise machine that won't strain sensitive joints.

Good as advertised February 6, 2010 Couby (Milford, Ct.) So far so good. This product has performed as advertised. There are only two things I would change and they are, there is no backlight on the computer so it's hard to see if you're working out at night, also there should be multiple user status so the personal info does not have to be changed with each user each time. Other than that the action is smooth and assembly was easy.
Owned it since Christmas 2007--still love it January 25, 2010 Mouse (chicago) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I bought this for Christmas in 2007. It arrived with a small crack in the plastic. Amazon offered to give me a further discount for the damage--ninety dollars off, so I took it. Have had no problems whatsoever with it. I put it together using heavy grease. It did start squeaking every few months, but after tightening (not overtightening) the screws, the squeaks always went away immediately. I have used this at least 3-4 times a week, if not daily over the last year. We also moved once in the last year, and the movers had no problems with it. I really am glad I bought it.
I got my money's worth January 25, 2010 NOV8TR (Santa Barbara, Ca.) A recent heart attack (my second) has re-motivated me to keep up on my physical condition. I refuse to join a Gym (kinda fussy about wallowing around in other peoples sweat). I found it was far too easy to "skip a jog" because it was too late, or because the weather was not ideal, or whatever. This purchase eliminated all those excuses and more. This machine is nearly silent during operation (I huff and puff louder than the beeps and clicks it makes). It can be moved around, and does not take up as much space as some of the other home Gym equipment we have all seen. It took me less that 1.5 hours to assemble, and everything worked when I was done. The assembly instructions were not the best, and you need to be careful not to over tighten the hardware (the screw threads strip easily), but for the money I think this is a great product. The shipping company was a little rough with the shipment, as one of the heaver components had poked a big hole in the side of the box. I'm amazed that none of the smaller parts were lost due to the compromised container. The part that had poked through the box was slightly bent, but it still functions properly and it wasn't worth whining about (I sure wasn't going to ship this heavy beast back!). The lack of a display back light is a bit of a bother (but only when using the machine after dark), however I would not pay the extra money for the next model up just to have that functionality. I have already modified some parts of the unit to allow me to hook up my Garmin forerunner and its cadence/distance sensors. It took a bit of fidgeting around, but with the modifications I can now track and record all my work outs on my computer (running, hiking, mountain biking, and elliptical trainer). I would recommend this product to a friend.
Good choice for the money and a small form factor to boot January 22, 2010 T. Thurber (USA) Duration owned: one month.
Frequency of use: two people once each day.
Pros: Great quality for its price range, small form factor, easy assembly, doesn't rock.
Cons: Foot pedal squeaks very slightly. Not a big deal at all.
Assessment: I am a picky person, and I can recommend this elliptical. My wife and I looked at reviews of various models for a couple of days and decided on this one. The 420 is a newer model than this one, but we bought the 430 because newer isn't always better. Assembly is easy, frankly the people who complained about it must not have assembled something with screws and bolts before. All of the previous reviews spoke of squeaking, so I put a lot of white lithium grease on it during assembly. The form factor is small, which is great in case we move to a small apartment some day. We are both <200lbs and the machine does not rock. The book holder on the control panel happens to hold my iphone in an otterbox defender case really well. This is great, because I use the "remote" app on the phone to control itunes on the computer playing music through my stereo. The drink holder conveniently holds the spray bottle, so I can keep our curious cats away. Overall, a really great workout for the both of us. For the price, it's a winner.
Excellent Elliptical! January 9, 2010 New Exerciser! (Lake Mary, Florida) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
After much deliberation and research, I purchased this elliptical in December and have been using it 5 days a week since then. It is so quiet and smooth riding! I love the display although I need to read the manual to utilize all of the functions. It is just the right size for my bedroom - I wanted something compact but sturdy and this fits the bill. We received two left arms in the box and Schwinn customer service was great and is sending us the correct arm. Definitely worth every penny. My husband had no problem putting it together - took about 2 hours altogether. I went from no exercise to exercising five days a week! I recommend this elliptical to anyone!
