Product Description When you require exact measuring, you reach for a caliper. But an accurate measurement is meaningless if you can't read it accurately. This caliper takes an essential tool into the 21st century with an extra-large LCD digital readout for exact internal and outside measurements accurate to .001". Instantly converts from SAE or Metric, the display can be zeroed at any point on the slide. Machine-grooved thumb-roll mechanism and position lock for sure adjustment. Hardened stainless steel shaft with depth-measurement probe, precision ground jaws. On-off switch with auto-off, two long-life batteries included (one spare).

Neiko caliper September 4, 2010 Alan Papka (Louisville, Kentucky) This is the first caliper I've ever bought. Compared to the other calipers in use in my engineering class, this caliper is easy to read, accurate, and sizable. It also comes with a replacement battery, a downright wonderful thing.
The only downside I can perceive is the enormous force needed to move its jaws apart and together. The amount of force I have to put into tunrning the slider is worrisome; as the electronics assembly is constructed of plastic, I'm afraid I'll strip or torque the thing right off. In the instructions, you are directed to use a few drops of clock oil as needed to lubricate the sliding assembly, and I am now off to buy some.
Overall, a well functioning machine, but I would want something better if it were for daily use.
Great Fathers Day Gift August 9, 2010 Marie Piasecki This was a great gift for my Dad. He has analog calipers but he really liked the big display which is easier on the eyes and faster to read. Something unique that made his day.
Neiko Tools Pro-Grade 12in Digital Vernier Caliper July 7, 2010 C. Dordoni (Massachusetts, USA) I recently purchased the Neiko Tools Pro-Grade 12in Digital Vernier Caliper and have used it on several projects.
For the price, it is fantastic value. There are a few things in regards to the construction and finish that indicate this is approx. 1/10 the cost of a "comparable" instrument from another manufacturer. For example, the jaws are not perfectly flush (different thicknesses) and the finish on each jaw is different. Aside from these minor things, I am quite happy with it.
A very good quality tool. June 10, 2010 C. L. Dunlap This is a tool that I've been needing for a long time. It has proven to be a useful quality tool that has served me well for the year that I've owned it. My only complaint (and the reason for the 4-star rating) is that there is no precise measuring ability outside the digital display. On another note, if you need to get into tight places, this may not be the caliper to get. Otherwise, it serves its purpose (and me) well.
If you buy an other pair of 12"calipers, you have too much money! May 25, 2010 S (KC,MO) I work at a very large tool and die company. The job I do at is very abusive to calipers, alot more than when I ran a CNC mill. In the past five years I have been through a dial pair of Mitutoyo,Brown and Sharp,Fowler, and an Aerospace brand that I bought through J&L. And I have had them repired countless times. The same thing happens every time. Something goes wrong with the rack or pinion gear like a chip gets in there or something and bam! Clean them out and they are still not working correctly. I bought these thinking no rack! no gear no problem! I was right so far. I have had them for only three months but I can't believe how accurate they still are cuz I have been just tossing them on to the tool cart just to see what they can take for $35.51. So far im happy! They are length is not as wide as the more expensive brands nor are they as heavy but, they work perfectly and bang for the buck is insane. Once the word gets out about these, the big boys are going to have to come down on there prices.
